Stuff Some People Don’t Know About Hockey

Everything IS about the Flyers.  They own the NHL.  [The part in the US anyway — The Maple Leafs now own NHL Canada].

Did you know that that Comcast purchased a 51% share [majority interest] in NBC Universal just a few months before the US NHL teams sold their souls [well at least their national tv rights] to ‘The NHL on NBC’?

Guess which hockey team Comcast owns?
    The Philadelphia Flyers

Apparently Comcast wasn’t happy preventing people in Philadelphia from watching local Philadelphia Sports — now they’re trying to ensure no one in Philadelphia can watch ANY hockey [unless you overpay for their crappy cable service].

I’m 99% certain the entire lockout was nothing more than a scheme cooked up by Ed Snider for the sole purpose of ditching the bad Bryzgalov contract.  “Oh we’re so poor” cry all the NHL Teams — as if they had no idea the contract for CANADIAN national TV rights would be up the following season.

How convenient the NHL-Rogers 12 year $5.2B [$4.9B USD] deal came along just after they skimmed a few more % off the tiny bucket of revenue they call ‘HRR’.  Do you know who know who owns 75% of MLSE [Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment — which owns the Toronto Maple Leafs?

    A Rogers/Bell holding company.

I’m wondering how long until Ed Snider tries to work out some International deal to buy-out Rogers.

    who are you

I’m a hockey fan [although not a huge fan of the greedy-money-hungry-corporate monopolies that own some of the teams]

I notice things other people don’t.  And I’m very Curious.  And an Engineer.  Which makes me somewhat strange.  But I like hockey so it’s all good right?

    Who are you?

Sorry, I have difficulties engaging other in social conversations.  Likely why I spend my nights alone watching hockey games.  I’m not very good at engaging others in conversation.

Sorry for flat out asking like this but are you a fellow Aspie? It kinda fits.

Not that I’m aware of.  My brain just sort of thinks differently than [it would appear] other people & when I “talk-out-loud” [metaphorically speaking] people think I’m weird. [Sometimes they use other words but… I’ll leave it at that.]

I have some health issues that seem to have affected by ability to think the way I used to & I had to take a leave from work for the last few months.  I didn’t mean to be rude and interrupt your whole reblog thing … I just sometimes see things that remind me of something & in the process of saying what I am trying to say get easily distracted.

I felt bad and gave made a present for your friend [I assumed from their url they’re a fan].

Stuff I Wonder If Other People Do About Hockey ..

What about sitting home all summer re-watching old games on gamecenter because maybe you missed a good game.  Or a game was so good, you had to listen to the visiting team’s feed just to hear their side of the story.  Or maybe you suddenly decided Rick Nash was a total hottie and after watching every New York Rangers game from the past 2 seasons figured you’d spend the summer watching a few seasons of Columbus Blue Jackets games, you know — just because you can.

And maybe because you also decided you liked hockey so much, you didn’t really need a cable or satellite subscription since you bought a GameCenter subscription & only other television you watch most of the year  [like NHL Revealed or 24/7] is available on Amazon’s On Demand Video therefore leaving you with very little OTHER options of things to watch over the summer.  But rather than going out & hanging out with friends during the offseason you’d prefer to watch reruns of old game while reading the latest offseason trade & signings drama.

Or you know…  if that sounds kind of weird than I’m just kidding & totally go out & do stuff in the summer like … whatever other people do in the summer when there’s no hockey.

Is this how hockey used to be played before Gary Bettman became supreme ruler of the NHL & took all the fun out of hockey.

Flyers earn a franchise record ten third period comebacks by defeating the Sharks 5-2. Goals in the third period were scored by Matt Read, Michael Raffl, Claude Giroux & Jakub Voracek

Stuff Other People Might Not Know About Hockey

Don’t forget about the other franchise record a Flyer set this season …
Ray Emery tied Ron Hextall for most Penalty Minutes [29] in a single game by a Philadelphia Flyers Goaltender when he skated down the ice & assaulted the Washington Capital Netminder Braden Holtby

Interestingly enough only one NHL goaltender has ever managed to accumulate MORE penalty minutes in a single game - Patrick Roy [31].  To Emery’s credit, out of the 10 instances where a goalie racked up more than 21 penalty minutes in a single game — Ray Emery managed to rake in his 29 PIM in less time than any of the others [including one other instance that saw him with 22 PIM while with the Ottawa Senators.

Ron Hextall is the only goalie to have two games with 20+ penalty minutes as a Philadelphia Flyer.  Of the 15 instances where a goalie took 20+ PIM — four of those instances involved goalies dressed for the Philadelphia Flyers.  [Robert Esche had a nice 27 PIM game as a Flyer].

    Yea Flyers !!!

Stuff People In Other Cities Do To Make Themselves Feel Better About Hockey

Even though he’s a Flyer, people in Colorado *think* he’s going to be on their team this upcoming fall.  Sort of like the people in Montreal *thought* he was a Canadien this past season. [And like how people in Columbus think Scott Hartnell is going to be a Blue Jacket in the fall]

They’re probably just jealous we have all the interesting players [sans Biz Nasty] & like to pretend someone interesting is on their team.

[If you don’t believe me, just ask people what team Jarome Iginla or Jaromir Jagr are on …  You’ll hear replies up & down the Eastern Seaboard to Dallas from people claiming one of them played for their team in the last few years  — Jealously I tell you]

    radboyraffl:

im honestly confused why people are suddenly tagging pictures and gifs of danny b with “colorado avalanche”??? why are they doing that?

Stuff That Sounds Like A Viable Alternative to the Shootout

Stuff That Sounds Like A Viable Alternative to the Shootout

    goingtopshelf:

it’s game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, 2015. Against all odds, it is a match up between the Washington Capitals and the Dallas Stars. The puck is dropped, but nobody moves, until the two captains skate to the center of the ice. The lights darken, and they drop their sticks. Two microphones descend from the ceiling. Alexander Ovechkin and Jamie Benn share a look. Their moment has come. They will settle this fight over the Stanley Cup with a rap battle
